Enjoy the Scent Short Flight to Lukla

Most flights to take’s off for Lukla early morning from 6:30 a.m. onwards.Enjoy the scenic flight on a small aircraft either Dornier, Twin Otter or similar airplanes. Soon as the flight takes enjoy the panorama of Kathmandu city and the surrounding valley. Enclosed by tiers of green hills dotted with amazing farm terraces and rural villages. As the plane reach higher views of snow-capped mountain ranges appear, overlooking Langtang, Jugal and Ganesh Himal.

PLEASANT FIRST DAY SCENIC WALK FROM LUKLA:

On reaching Lukla at 2,860 m/9,400 feet high, start the first day walk to respective overnight destination. As set by Himalayan Friendly itinerary, enjoy the pleasant first day trek, walking through the town of Lukla.
A nice gradual to start on the first day, the trail follows through Lukla town, observe the local activity. Lukla is a busy town due to its airport, it is the starting and ending point of all treks around Khumbu. A moderate size town lined with shops, stores, restaurants and hotels. As the walk leads at the end of Lukla town just by the Pasang Lhamu Memorial Gate. Tribute to the Nepali first lady to step on top of Mt. Everest on April 23, 1993.

The walk leads downhill through nice Sherpa villages adorned with Buddhist monuments, lined with prayer walls. Where every houses decorated with Buddhist prayer flags, as a symbol good of goodwill and guarding against evil
spirits. The walk follows on winding path with few short steep ups and down to Phakding. Spend the afternoon and overnight halt at 2,610 m high, located by the Dudh Koshi River. A moderate sized village full of nice lodges and restaurants as well with few shops and stores.

EXCITING TREK TO FAMOUS NAMCHE BAZAAR:

After a pleasant overnight with nice short first day trek as well as the traditional hospitality of the native Sherpa. Morning walk starts heading towards the famous Namche Bazaar, the hub of Everest and Khumbu. Enjoyable walk for few hours until lunch time, walking across the exciting bridges to enter Sagarmatha National
Park. The park established in 1976, and designated as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1979. The park named Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepal, the Sherpa call Chomolungma of Tibetan origin language.

The park covers exotic Himalayan flora and fauna with world’s famous mountains, including the unique Sherpa heritage cultures. The walk gets better on leaving the park entrance crossing bridges towards the last village at Jorsalle. An ideal spot for lunch break located on the Dudh Koshi River gorge, after a good lunch and
refreshing stop. Afternoon walk continues heading due north following the river bed covered by dense forest of pines, firs and rhododendron trees. Then the trail leads to a short steep climb to cross the last bridge of the day. Getting across above the tributaries rivers of Dudh Koshi, the Bhote Koshi and Imjatse Rivers.

The walk then heads towards winding uphill with glorious views of snow-capped peaks, Kongde, Kusum Khanguru and Thamarsaku. After hours of good walk reaching a small clearing and resting spot at Thoph Danda. An opportunity for first glimpse of Everest in the north, depending upon if afternoon is clear for the view. Slowly with short rest enjoying the surrounding views of the river valley and snow peaks. Then enter the amazing town of Namche Bazaar, steeped with lovely big houses that serves as hotels and lodges. The guide will take you to a nice hotel or lodge for relaxing stops for two nights.

PLACES TO EXPLORE AROUND NAMCHE BAZAAR:

Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m/11.286 feet high a perfect height for acclimatization before heading towards Everest base camp. Enjoy the pleasant rest day exploring its great view-points. The best and short hike for acclimatization, as well as for the grand vista is climb up above Namche Bazaar. The walk follows towards National Park Headquarter
with fabulous bird eye views of Namche Bazaar. From the top ridge enjoy the dramatic views of Everest, Lhotse and beautiful Ama Dablam.

From this grand viewpoint enjoy tour of the museum, treasures good information of the Khumbu region. From local culture, flora, fauna and mountaineering history, etc. The next best for views is climb up for an hour or more towards
Syangboche. A place with an old airstrip, the walk leads to gradual uphill path to Everest View Hotel. The first luxury hotels of Khumbu and Everest areas, listed in Guinness World Record as the highest hotels on earth.
From the hotel views of Mt. Everest and Ama Dablam, located on a serene forest surrounding. Rest of the afternoon after lunch, explore the Namche Bazaar lined with shops, stores and fancy restaurants, café, bakeries.

The other great day hike is visiting the sleepy villages of Khunde and Khumjung, situated on a glacial valley. It is a moderate sized villages quite different from Namche Bazaar, and less commercial. Trekkers can observe the true traditional heritage and cultures, the hike of few hours up to Syangboche to Khumjung Village. Khumjung at 3,790 m, located beneath the holy mountain Khumbila, 5,761 m/12,402ft high, the patron god of Khumbu Sherpa.
At Khumjung besides grand views of towering snow peaks, enjoy the tour of 500 years old monastery. The only place that treasures the scalp believed to be of a Yeti. An interesting holy Buddhist complex, steeped with ancient prayer books, tapestry and murals with vibrant religious arts and paintings.

Khumjung Village with the only High School supported by Himalayan Trust and late Sir Edmund Hillary. From Khumjung a short slow uphill walk to the adjoining Khunde Village, situated at 3,800 m/ 12,602 ft high. Khunde with the first hospital of Khumbu also built by Sir Edmund Hillary and Himalayan Trust.
The views of the Himalayan from Khunde is also spectacular, after an interesting visit of Khumjung and Khunde. Hike downhill to Namche Bazaar for overnight halt, after a great wonderful experience visiting the best places of Khumbu.

The name Namche Bazaar is due to its busy colorful Saturday market held once a week. From Namche Bazaar onwards slaughter of animals is completely restricted. The Sherpa of Khumbu for fresh meats have to rely on Saturday Market. Merchants and traders brings the fresh meats to Namche Bazaar, from lower areas of Solu Khumbu.

ON THE TRAIL TO EVEREST BASE CAMP VIA TENGBOCHE:

From Namche Bazaar, after an interesting well worth extra days for acclimatization. The next overnight destination takes you to picturesque spot at Tengboche and its colorful majestic monastery. A moderate distance walks full of
beautiful views of snow-capped peaks, first few hours on gradual scenic path. Afternoon walks after lunch few hours of steady climb through lovely cool forest of pines, rhododendrons, firs and junipers. Slowly the exciting uphill walk brings you on top of spectacular location at Tengboche and the monastery.

Tengboche is one of the best place for super panorama of Everest and array of snow-capped mountain ranges. It is also the vantage spot for excellent views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and majestic looking peak Ama Dablam.
Tengboche is one of the major highlights for trekkers to enjoy the exciting gorgeous mountain panorama. Including the beautiful colorful Monastery and its large complex, it is also an important monastery around Khumbu.
An annual festival is held at Tengboche Monastery in the month of October or November, as per Buddhist Lunar Calendar. The glorious festival is called Mani Rimdu, the event where all monks and priest dressed in colorful attire.
The dances and chanting wading the evil spirits and for the goodwill of all Khumbu Villagers and its lively surroundings.

Tengboche at 3,867 m /12,687 feet high is one of the most spectacular spot around the Himalayas. ON THE TRAIL TO EVEREST BASE CAMP VIA DINGBOCHE:

Enjoy the morning glorious scenery of Himalayan range of peaks with Mt. Everest while having breakfast. The walk to Dingboche is fair distance ofApprox. 5 hours, start the morning hike heading downhill. Reaching the iron bridge above Imjatse River with a deep gorge, from here slowly the vegetation and tree lines disappears. As the trail heads to gradual uphill to Pangboche, the last permanent village en route Everest base camp. The other places like Dingboche, Pheriche, Lobuche and Gorakshep are temporary settlements to cater the needs of trekkers. From Pangboche Village onwards, walk leads amidst windswept terrains, but pleasant trek with exciting close views
of Ama Dablam. The trail heads to slow climb through Somare a small place with number of simple lodges and restaurants. An ideal spot for lunch break with grand vista of towering close look of Ama Dablam.
Afternoon walk leads to gradual up reaching the midway of Pheriche and Dingboche. The route to Dingboche leads the lower path with short down to a stream. After the bridge, climb leads for an hour or more to enter the beautiful
Imjatse Valley where Dingboche is situated.

Dingboche is a moderate sized settlement with many good lodges to enjoy overnight stops. Dingboche at 4,410 m, located west end of scenic Imjatse Valley and close beneath Ama Dablam north face. Another perfect place and altitude for acclimatization, before heading towards Everest base camp. Dingboche due to it scenic location amidst beautiful Imjatse Valley, a perfect place for another acclimatization and rest day.

Enjoy the extra day at Dingboche before heading towards higher terrain unto Everest base camp.
Various best places to explore on rest day for short and longer hiking to support acclimatization. The best and short hike is to Nagkartshang ridge top, one of the popular viewpoint for arrays of snow-capped peaks.
Nagkartshang at 5,083 m high offers spectacular views of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Nuptse, and Lhotse at close distance. Includes views of Mt. Makalu towards east with chain of snow-capped peaks.

Interested and strong energetic people can enjoy the long hike and climb up to Chukung-Ri at 5,546 m. Although the views is almost similar as from Nagkartshang but with closest views of Island Peak, Lhotse and Nuptse.
For the long hike to Chukung the last settlement of Khumbu, and climb of Chukung-Ri. Takes about 6 to 7 hours both ways from Dingboche, lunch at Chukung before the climb or after Chukung-Ri.

ON THE TRAIL TO EVEREST BASE CAMP VIA LOBUCHE:

Enjoying rest and acclimatization days at Dingboche, the true adventure begins from Dingboche onwards. The walk leads to top ridge of Dingboche with another aspect for glorious morning views of snow mountain ranges.
From the top a pleasant walk with gradual up leads to Thugla, a small settlement and ideal spot for lunch. Located in between the route of Dingboche, Pheriche and towards Everest base camp via Lobuche. Afternoon climb for less than hour with steep up to reach Thugla high ridge. After a good rest the walk continues for few hours with slow up to Lobuche. A nice settlement with number of good lodges for overnight halt with views of Lobuche and Nuptse Peaks.

TREKKING TO THE ULTIMATE DESTINATION EVEREST BASE CAMP:

Today the adventure takes you to the ultimate destination at Everest Base Camp. Enjoy the morning cool walk from Lobuche on gradual path for short while, and then short steep climb. Reaching across moraine of rocks, ice above Khumbu Glacier to reach Gorakshep, a small settlement. Gorakshep with few lodges located en route Everest Base Camp and beneath Mt. Pumori and high Kalapathar rocky ridge. Gorakshep at one time was a base camp for Everest mountaineering expeditions, as the glaciers receded. The present base camp were shifted further
east about 6 km from Gorakshep, the last final settlement before base camp.From Gorakshep, enjoy the pleasant and dramatic walk of few hours following the gradual path, above Khumbu Glacier. Then reaching Everest base camp amidst arctic zone terrains landscapes, standing beneath the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest. Enjoy the magnificent views of surrounding giant peaks that towers between Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and Lingtrin. Includes Khumbu Ice Fall at close distance, however, the views of Mt. Everest is obstructed by the adjoining
peaks.

But truly an ever exciting place to experience, from base camp back to Gorakshep. Enjoy the last overnight, on the highest spot of the adventure enclosed by mighty snow peaks. The next early morning before breakfast, enjoy a steep climb up to the top of Kalapathar rocky ridge. One of famous and most popular viewpoints in all the
Himalayas with views of Mt. Everest at a mere distance. Kalapathar the highest spot of the adventure at 5, 5,643 m /18,514 feet, after a glorious morning incredible views. Descend to Gorakshep and for onwards
journey back to Lukla via Pheriche Valley, another lovely settlement.

The walk continues to Namche Bazaar and then down with short ups to Lukla for last overnight around Khumbu regions.

CONCLUSION:

Everest base camp with various exciting places to explore and experience including its fascinating Buddhist heritage cultures. Trekkers needs to obtain trekking permits and Sagarmatha National Park entrance tickets.
The trekking permits is issued by the Khumbu Sherpa Community, to enjoy Everest Base Camp Trekking. Where all age groups can join in, but needs to be in good physical shape and in sound health.
