Everest Three High Passes Trekking is an adventure of a lifetime experience, covering most of Khumbu’s high scenic areas. The treks with picturesque scenery and jaw-dropping views of the world’s tallest peaks, walking from the main trail to hidden pockets.

The Everest Three High Passes lead you from one scenic valley to another beautiful area. Includes a visit to Everest Base Camp and climb of Kalapathar, a famous viewpoint for close views of Mt. Everest. Kalapathar is the highest point of the adventure to enjoy stunning views of towering snow peaks that surround the Kalapathar.

The Everest Three High Pass Trekking options for two main routes, starting from the west of Khumbu at Thame. The most popular and the best way is to begin the adventure from Imjatse Valley. The lovely settlements of Dingboche and Chukung are located within a scenic environment of giant peaks.

The high passes to cross start from Chukung, with a climb to cross over Khongma-La at 5,545 m high. Then reach Lobuche on the main trail en-route Everest Base Camp after completing the first high Khongma-La Pass.

Adventures continue to traverse over 2nd high pass of Cho-La at 5,420 m, to reach the beautiful Gokyo Valley of lakes. After a pleasant rest and exploring the scenic valley of Gokyo, then head towards Renjo-La at 5,360 m. The last final pass of the adventures, on completing and achieving the goals and main highlight and then reaching Thame village.

From Thame, on a gradual trail and pleasant walk to Namche Bazaar, and then to Lukla for the last overnight stop. The next morning, a scenic, short flight brings you to Kathmandu. After a wonderful experience and adventures on Everest Three High Pass Trekking.

Itinerary

On arrival in Kathmandu at International Airport (Tribhuvan Airport) received by Himalayan Friendly staff and guide. A short drive to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city. At the hotel check into your lovely rooms with refreshing rest after a jet-leg. Then join in with other members of the group, for briefing. Our guide and leader will provide useful information regarding the trek, local lodge, and food. After briefing enjoy the dinner in a typical Nepalese Restaurant.

Free day in Kathmandu for optional tour of Kathmandu city world heritage sites of few hours. The rest of the day preparing for the wonderful Everest Three Passes Trek.

Early morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for a short flight to Lukla, views of mountains during 30 30-minute flight. On landing in Lukla Tenzing & Hillary Airport, meet our trekking staff and start walking downhill past interesting Sherpa villages. Walk around farm areas to reach Phakding for an overnight stop near Dudh Koshi River.

After a pleasant overnight in Phakding, today’s walk leads to the famous Namche Bazaar the main town of the Khumbu region. After breakfast walk on a gradual undulating path crossing the same river a few times. After a few hour’s walks reach the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park near Monjo village. From here towards Jorsalle for lunch the last village, before Namche, afternoon continue walking on a river valley. Following the river bed, and then a long climb to Namche Bazaar for an overnight stop.

At Namche enjoy a rest day for acclimatization, before heading higher altitude to Everest base camp. As well as crossing the three high passes, Namche Bazaar is a moderate-sized town with shops, stores, and banks. Take a short hike up to the National Park Museum offers information about the Khumbu area. From the high ridge with the museum enjoy superb views of Mt. Everest and Ama-Dablam with a range of other snow-capped peaks. Other options are hike to Everest View Hotel, Khumjung, and Khunde village located on a glacial valley beneath the holy Mt. Khumbila (the patron God of Khumbu Sherpa)

From Namche a pleasant walk for the first half till lunch with grand views of Everest, Kwangde, Tharmasarku, and Ama Dablam. After a downhill walk cross over the Imjatse River to Phunki-Tenga a small place with few small shops and lodges. A good place for lunch stop, after lunch few hours climb through a beautiful forest of rhododendrons, pines, oaks, and fir trees. Then reaching Tengboche for an overnight spot. A beautiful and scenic location with a majestic monastery, after checking into the lodge, a short tour of the monastery. From Tengboche super panorama of Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse with Ama Dablam, includes an array of peaks.

Enjoy the morning view of Everest and the range of peaks, walk starts with a downhill to a bridge above the Imjatse River. From here the tree lines drop for short alpine bushes, as the climb leads to Pangboche village. The last permanent village before Dingboche and beyond. After a short rest with a grand look of Ama Dablam, a slow-up to Somare for lunch stop. An afternoon walk on a gradual uphill in an exposed area gets quite windy with a cold breeze. The walk then heads down to a river crossing a small bridge with an hour climb to Dingboche for an overnight stop. A lovely large settlement with many nice lodges and guest houses, located west of Imjatse Valley. Beneath the towering North Face of Ama Dablam with the best views of Island Peak. One of the popular and famous trekking peaks around the Khumbu area, check into a nice lodge for two overnight stops.

Another rest day for acclimatization, morning after breakfast enjoy a short hike up to a high ridge of Nagarjun. Offers a panorama of surrounding giant peaks with views of Mt. Makalu towards the east. Rest of the day relax and marvel at the magnificent scenery of towering snow peaks.

From Dingboche after a pleasant rest day, morning a short hike to Chukung, located at the eastern end of Imjatse Valley. The walk is pleasant past the last lodge of Dingboche, following on a wide field with few short-ups. After a good hike reach Chukung for lunch and overnight stop, afternoon relax, and enjoy the views of Lhotse and Island Peak.

After a leisure day in Chukung and Dingboche, start the adventure to cross the first pass over Khongma-La. Which is the highest pass than Cho-La and Renjo-La Passes, an early morning walk follows for an hour. The trail leads above Imjatse Valley and then heads into a wide gully of Nuptse Wall and Nagarjuna Ridge.

A steep climb over a moraine of rocks to reach Khongma-La Pass, situated between Khongma or Mihara peaks with Pokalde Peak. After a short downhill to cross Khumbu glacier, and then with a short steep climb to reach Lobuche for an overnight stop. Enjoy the comfort of a nice good lodge accommodation, after a hard and exciting long day.

Another long day but easier than the previous day, starting early morning to reach the famous destination of Everest Base Camp. Begins with a gradual walk and then a short climb reaching above Khumbu glacier to reach Gorakshep, Located beneath Mt. Pumori and Kalapathar’s scenic viewpoint and towards Everest Base Camp. After a refreshing stop, the trail follows east on the gradual path over rocks and boulders to reach Everest base camp. Enjoy the dramatic scenery amidst remorseless fields of ice, snow, and glaciers with a close look at the massif Khumbu Ice Fall. After glorious moments at Everest base camp, retrace the journey back to Gorakshep for an overnight stop.

Early morning climb to the top of Kalapathar at 5,643 meters, the highest spot of this adventure. The steep up of a few hours to reach the high black topped rocky ridge, enjoy the majestic panorama of snow mountains. Kalapathar is a famous and popular viewpoint for close views of Mt. Everest, beneath the towering lofty peak of Pumori. After a great exciting morning down to Gorakshep for breakfast. Then continue walking past Lobuche to reach above Thugla, as the path leads to a small valley at Dzongla. Situated close to Cholatse Peak and its frozen pond, check into a nice simple lodge for overnight.

Another early morning for an exciting day, having a good breakfast walk on a gradual path to the foot of Cho-La Pass. The adventure begins with a steep climb, heeding slowly and taking care of slippery icy sections then reaching on top of Cho-La Pass. The top is marked with rock cairns and prayer flags, a sign of respect to the abode of holy mountain spirits. From the top of Cho-La Pass enjoy grand views of snow peaks with Cholatse peaks and its Glacier. The views include Nirekha, and Lobuche East and West peaks as far as Mt. Cho-Oyu. After an exciting moment, a long descent to Thaknag for an overnight stop, after a long climb to cross Cho-La Pass. Thagnak is a small settlement with few simple good lodges, located on the eastern end of Gokyo Valley.

After a great adventure crossing the second Cho-La pass, morning an easy walk to reach Gokyo’s main third lake. The walk follows beneath the Nepal Himalayas, the longest Ngozumpa glacier. As the walk proceeds slowly reaching the first, second, and then the third main lakes of Gokyo. It is also called Dudh Pokhari where all good lodges are located with superb views of Mt. Cho-Oyu. At Gokyo for lunch and overnight, afternoon at leisure to enjoy exploring the beautiful and scenic valley of Gokyo.

Rising early to cross the last third pass of the adventure, an early morning start after a good breakfast. As well as carrying packed lunch for the long hour walks to reach the other side of Gokyo Valley at Lungden. The leads across the Gokyo third lake near the base of Gokyo-Ri, a scenic viewpoint. Where trekkers can enjoy the same views from the top of Renjo-La Pass. From the bottom of Renjo-La, a steep climb takes you to the high ridge at Renjo-La Pass. After a few hours of steady steep climb, from the top enjoy the grand views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse. Includes views of Mt Cho-Oyu and Mt. Makalu with an array of snow peaks that surround, the Renjo-La Pass. After enjoying a pleasant rest with marvelous views, descend towards Lungden, heading past a frozen pond. Then finally the day ends reaching a small settlement at Lungden for an overnight stop. Lungden is located between Gokyo and Thame village and close en route to the Tiber border and Nangpa-La Pass.

After completing all three high passes, feeling free and easy, today walk to Thame, located west of Khumbu. The morning walk follows downhill to reach the small village of Marlung and past Thyangmoche and Hungmo settlements. The walk leads to a small bridge to cross over the Bhote Koshi River, a tributary of the Dudh Koshi River. From the bridge on a nice wide and gradual path to Thame, in the comfort of a nice lodge for overnight. Afternoon visits Thame monastery, the oldest Gompa around the Khumbu area, Thame is located west of Namche Bazaar as well en route to Rolwaling Valley via high Tashi-Labtsa-La Pass.

From Thame onwards, a pleasant and exciting walk, after breakfast leaving Thame village with a short descent to cross a river. Then uphill with a gradual walk to Thamo village with the hydropower station for all Khumbu villages. From here walk back into green tree lines of pines and rhododendrons, then downhill to Namche Bazaar. Spending a refreshing moment, continue walking downhill to Monjo, near Sagarmatha National Park. The walk is on a winding long descent to Dudh Koshi River, and a short climb to Monjo for an overnight stop.

Morning walk on a pleasant trail to Phakding, from Phakding walk past nice villages lined with impressive prayer monuments. The route follows an hour-long climb to reach Lukla for the last overnight around Khumbu and Everest region. Reaching Lukla for lunch and overnight stop, as well for last night’s dinner celebration with fellow members, guide, staff, and porters.

From Lukla take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu with spectacular views of the mountains, on reaching Kathmandu domestic airport, our staff will transfer you back to a hotel around Thamel area with the rest of the day free at leisure.

Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, after a great memorable adventure around Khumbu with the Everest Three High Passes Trek. Our staff transfer you to the international airport terminal and then bid farewell to the guide and staff. As you reach the air terminal for a homeward-bound flight.

For Everest three high passes Trek, you will found the Bottle mineral water but it is a little expensive than City area. For example, at the starting point of the Three High Passes Trek – Lukla (2,860 m), a liter of water costs Rs 80, but at GorakShep (5,200 m) the price of water is already Rs 400. To save money, It will be best to have one spare of an empty Water bottle while refilling the water. You can also bring water purifying tablets for safe drinking water which helps to save the cost.

Weight Allowance and Restrictions:

Flight Delays and Cancellation:

In high seasons of trekking, especially on Everest region the flights gets diverted to another airport. At Manthali in the district of Ramechap, at a distance of approx. 155 km. It takes about 4-5 hours drives to reach Manthali airport for short flight to Lukla of 20 to 25 minutes.

From Kathmandu to Lukla flight duration is 30 to 35 minutes on clear fine day. Similarly, it will be the same ways flying from Lukla to Manthali airport in Ramechap. Lukla & unpredictable weather can cause flight delays from time to time.

That & why we have kept aside a contingency or spare day to adjust with the itinerary. So that you might not miss the charm and beauty on Everest region trekking and to Everest base camp. In case on missing the flight on the scheduled day, for late arrival in Kathmandu.

The company will arrange another flight ticket for you for the same or next early morning. If the normal schedule gets delayed or cancelled the best option is using the service of a helicopter, which is more reliable, but at extra cost.

We must remind you that the expenses for food and accommodation incurred until your next flight will be borne by you, it is not included in the trip package.

Trekking Permits and Sagarmatha National Park Trekking Permits
for 2024/2025.

Including Everest Region and various adventures. Trekking Permits is issued by the Khumbu village community known as Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Municipality Permit. The permit is obtained on arrival in Lukla, the guide will instruct you show your passport and required PP photos.

The cost which comes of NRS 2,000 per person, approx. US$15 as per the current exchange rate. The permit will cover for 4 weeks, for more days than declared the cost will be NRS 2,500 per person. The other permits included is Sagarmatha National Park entrance permit.

Sagarmatha is name for Everest in Nepal, the native Sherpa call as Chomolungma of Tibetan origin. In both languages it means a great Mother as huge as an ocean. The permit is issued in the park entrance near Monjo village on the second day walk from Lukla, and Phakding.

The cost is NRS 3,000 per person which is about US $ 22.5. For SAARC (South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation). The members are Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Sri-Lanka and Maldives, Nepal with Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The cost for SAARC is NRS 1,500 per person and for domestic Nepali trekkers is NRS 100 per person.
