Langtang & Gosainkunda Trekking takes you north of Kathmandu Valley, the nearest Himalayan Mountain range from the capital Kathmandu.
Langtang & Gosaikunda is located within the district of Rasuwa around Central Himalaya a mere aeronautical distance of 32 k.m. The Langtang Himal range forms the boundary of Nepal and Tibet-China.
Langtang Himal region is Nepal’s third most popular adventure destination after Annapurna and Everest areas. Due to its proximity and accessibility within driving distance from Kathmandu offers trekkers overwhelming country walks and trekking with daily views of high snow-capped peaks.
Langtang & Gosainkunda trekking route takes you close to Ganesh and amidst Langtang Himal. Trekkers can enjoy spectacular views of towering snow-capped peaks on daily walks. The trek to Langtang & Gosainkunda is a great combination of visiting both scenic regions of Langtang Himal range. The first part of the adventure leads to scenic Langtang Valley at Kyanjin Gompa.
A picturesque valley in the close shadow of massif Langtang Himal, where a hike takes you high Kyanjin-Ri and Tserko-Ri. A good acclimatization hike on a rest day at Kyanjin Gompa, after enjoying the glorious scenery of Langtang Himal peaks.
The next phase of the journey takes you on the high ridges facing grand views of Langtang, Ganesh, and Manaslu. As far as Annapurna Himalayas towards the far west horizon as walk climbs above the dense tree lines. Reaching the holy spot at Gosainkunda with sacred glacial crystal clear pond, one of holiest pilgrimage sites for Hindu religion.
After an exciting at Gosainkunda and the holy pond, the adventure continues to cross the high Gosainkunda pass. Also called East Laurabinaya-La at a height of 4,609 m /15,100 ft. The highest point of the trek besides the optional climb to Kyanjin and Tserko-Ri, a long descent leads to the Helambu area. Reaching Kutumsang and Gul-Bhanjyang villages then unto scenic ridge at Chisapani, located North East of Kathmandu Valley rim. Chisapani offers stunning sunrises over an array of Himalayan ranges of peaks.
Then slowly the walk heads downhill through a serene forest of rhododendrons and pine trees, reaching Sundarijal farm town. The walk ends with a short drive to Kathmandu, completing the wonderful adventure to Langtang Valley & Gosainkunda Trekking.
Langtang Trekking Permits, all trekkers require TIMS (Trekking Information Management Systems). These permits are issued by TAAN (Trekking Agents Association of Nepal), and these needful permits will be obtained by your agents.
Besides, the TIMS card the entry permits to Langtang Himal regions, like Langtang Valley, Gosainkunda, and Helambu Trekking. Including Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking, visitors need permits before departing for the treks towards their respective destinations.
Apart from TIMS, trekkers need Langtang National Park fees which will be checked at the entrance point in Dhunche Town. The headquarters of Rasuwa district and Langtang Himal region. Langtang National Park covers all of Langtang region as far as Ganesh Himal in the west. As well as Helambu areas towards the east including en route to Rasuwagaddi the borders of Nepal & Tibet/China.
On arrival in Kathmandu at Nepal International Airport received by Himalayan Friendly staff and a guide. A short drive to your hotel, located in the main areas of Kathmandu city. On reaching the hotel, check into your lovely rooms after a long flight and jet lag. Getting refreshed join with other members of Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda Trekking for briefing. Provided by Himalayan Himalayan-friendly guide or leader, detailed information on the trekking route, local lodge, and food. After briefing a group welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese Restaurant with local folk culture programs.
A free day of preparation for the trek to Langtang Valley & Gosainkunda, to buy and hire necessary items for the trek. The rest of the day is free at leisure, interested people can request for half tour around Kathmandu. Steeped with fascinating heritage sites, of both Hindu and Buddhist monuments.
The morning starts early for a long and exciting drive to Syabrubesi the gateway town and village to Langtang Valley. The drive follows north on leaving Kathmandu, heading past Trisuli town, and then entering Rasuwa district. The road leads winding uphill to cooler hills reaching Dhunche, the headquarters town of Rasuwa district. As well as the entrance of Langtang National Park, from Dhunche downhill on the zig-zagged winding road to reach Syabrubesi. Arrive by late afternoon for overnight, and then check into a nice lodge and have time to explore the town-farm village. Observe the local culture and customs of the Tamang people the tribes of Langtang and the Central Himalayan region.
Syabrubesi is a vantage starting point for Ganesh Himal, the Tibet border, and the Tamang Heritage Trail. As well as to Langtang Valley, a morning walk follows to cross a bridge and climb towards small farm areas. As the walk continues reaching a small settlement of Riverside with few Tea Houses. Stopping for a lunch stop, afternoon a gradual climb into the dense forest of rhododendrons and pine trees. They reach an open area amidst the forest. Where Lama Hotel settlement situated our overnight stop in the comfort of a nice simple lodge.
Lama Hotel is located in a river gorge amidst dense woods, The morning walk starts following the river upstream through lovely trees. Reaching a nice spot at Ghode Tabla for lunch, an afternoon walk into the forested trail to Langtang Village. Trekkers can see the rubble of big boulders from the avalanches that destroyed the village in the 2015 earthquakes. Many local people were killed as well as some foreign trekkers, and a small memorial of Stupa stands at the village. The village has been rebuilt and life is slowly coming back to normal, enjoy the comfort of a nice simple lodge.
From Langtang Village today a short walk to Kyanjin Gompa for lunch and overnight stop. The walk follows past to adjoining village of Mundu with a short steep climb then into a wide valley. From here the tall tree lines drop for short juniper bushes, facing views of Langtang Himal with Dorje Lakpa. Slowly the walk reaches a lovely large settlement of Kyanjin Gompa with a small monastery. The lodges here are much better than previous overnight stops, enjoy the comfort of a nice lodge accommodation. Arriving at Kyanjin Gompa for lunch and two overnight stops, located amidst beautiful surroundings amidst Langtang Valley, Afternoon explore the Kyanjin areas and its small monastery of great religious and cultural interest.
An enjoyable and exciting place Kyanjin Gompa for a rest day, having breakfast options for short and long day hikes. The short hike is a climb to Kyanjin-Ri at 4,773 m and a longer hiking of 4-5 hours. Which is a steep climb to Tserko-Ri At 5,033 m high, both viewpoints offer spectacular panorama of surrounding giant peaks. Includes super vista of Langtang Himal range with Langtang Lirung and Langtang-Ri. Overlooking as far as Jugal Himal, Yala Peak, and Dorje Lakpa with some mountains across the border in Tibet. The hike to Kyanjin or Tserko-Ri supports acclimatization before heading towards high Gosainkunda and the pass to cross. Rest of the afternoon at leisure amidst beautiful mountain surroundings at Kyanjin Gompa.
Enjoy a wonderful time at Kyanjin, with glorious views of towering snow-capped peaks. After breakfast enjoy the longest day walks to Lama Hotel, with a long stretch of downhill. Reaching back into tall tree lines past Mundu, and Langtang villages to reach Lama Hotel for an overnight stop.
From Lama Hotel our route diverts heading northeast to Gosainkunda and Beyond, The morning walk follows downhill to Riverside. After a few hours of a good walk downhill, after the bridge from Riverside reach a small settlement at Bamboo. Possible lunch stops at Bamboo, the name due to the dense bamboo stalks that surround this small place. Afternoon walks a few hours climb towards Upper or Thulo Syabru Village for an overnight stop. A nice traditional and typical Tamang Village with fine intricate wood carvings on every house.
After a pleasant stop in Thulo Syabru, the morning walk heads up above the village and the monastery. The climb leads through a dense forest of pines and rhododendrons with grand views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himalayas. As the walk proceeds reaching a wide field and grazing areas within beautiful woods. From here on an easy pleasant trail to follow reaching the overnight stop at Sing Gompa, a nice small settlement. Check into a lovely lodge, with time to visit the monastery of Sing Gompa.
Morning walk with short steep climb facing wonderful views of Ganesh, Manaslu, and as far as Annapurna Himal range. The walk gets gentle entering a lovely forest with grand views of Langtang Himal towards the north. The trail leads to an open area leaving the forest with a steep climb up to Laurabinaya. A small place with a few Tea Houses, for lunch stop with a great super panorama of surrounding beautiful landscapes. Includes views of snow-capped peaks, afternoon climb continues to the Laurabinaya high ridge. An exciting high spot for a marvelous panorama of surroundings landscapes and snow-capped peaks. From the top a short descent and walk past Bhairab Kund with a short climb to Gosainkunda for an overnight stop.
The lodge is situated above the glacial holy pond of Gosainkunda with a small shrine of Lord Shiva. The Hindu god the belief is that he created the lakes and ponds around Gosainkunda. Once a year the full moon a festival is held. Thousands of pilgrims visit to bathe and dip in the holy pond, believing it cleanses the sins of hundreds of lifetimes. The festival called Janai Purnima is a Hindu event where menfolk change their holy threads.
From Gosainkunda our route leads to the east around Helambu region, morning walk past the Gosainkunda crystal pond. As climb starts on a rocky path coming across a few smaller icy ponds to reach on top of Gosainkunda. Also called East Laurabinaya-La Pass, the highest point of the adventure faces a vista of surrounding views with dramatic landscape scenery. After an enjoyable view, a long descent to the bottom a place with a few smaller Tea-House. The walk continues reaching back into dense forest and at Ghopte Odar for overnight stop.
After being around high altitude, from Ghopte Odar, the elevation slowly drops with a short climb to Thadepati. A high ridge with serval huts serving as lodges and Tea-House, a nice spot for a lunch stop. Located in between Helambu areas and towards Kathmandu via Kutumsang village. After lunch a few hours of walk down to Kutumsang village for an overnight stop, a nice farm village.
Enjoy a nice breakfast, and start the walk on a high ridge through small forested areas and farmlands. A short downhill to the large village of Gul Bhanjyang for a possible lunch break. The afternoon walk follows downhill with a few short-ups to reach Patti-Bhanjyang. Enjoy the wonderful views of surrounding beautiful landscapes a short climb brings you to Chisapani. A lovely and scenic place on a high ridge with several good lodges for last overnights. Chisapani is situated above the Kathmandu Valley on the northern high hills. A beautiful location for stunning views of Langtang, Jugal, and Ganesh Himal with Manaslu. As far as towards Annapurna Himalayan range on the far west horizon.
Rising early to enjoy the striking sunrise views over the chain of Himalayan peaks, after breakfast. Enjoy the last day walk of the journey to reach Sundarijal, a farm town at the rim of Kathmandu Valley. The route follows downhill into a lovely serene forest through a farm village reaching a lovely area with waterfalls and streams. From here a short descent to Sundarijal Town to end our lovely morning walks. After completing our adventure, board a vehicle for an hour’s drive to enter the bustling city of Kathmandu. On reaching the heart of the city transfer back to your hotel. After a marvelous adventure and experience on Langtang Valley & Gosainkunda Trekking, the rest of the afternoon is free for individual activities.
Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, after a great memorable adventure around the Annapurna Himalayas. Enjoying a great time on Langtang Valley & Gosainkunda Trekking. As time for your international airport terminal, our guide and staff transfer you to the International Airport. Then bid farewell to Nepal and guide, staff, as you enter the air terminal for a homeward-bound flight.
Himalayan Friendly is a small company operated by an experienced trekking guide (Mr. Ram Ghale). Ram has been trekking for 10 years. The staff in Himalayan friendly are well prepared to deal with any possible problem and make the trip beautiful.
Of course, you can modify the itinerary by adding an extra day with the guidance of a trekking guide. While adding extra days the cost will be slightly increased.
Himalayan friendly will not pay the cost of an additional hotel night in Kathmandu, but will always be willing to assist you.
Although most of the lodges and hotels provide toilet paper, we recommend carrying toilet paper as an extra safety.
Himalayan friendly should pay for the guides, porters, and accommodation. So if you did not finish the trek due to physical difficulty, or natural disaster, then money is not refunded.
During a trek, you can expect 3 full meals. The common meals menu will be Nepalese traditional dishes, Tibetan and Continental.
