Annapurna Base Camp Trekking is nearly for all seasons of the year, but the best is spring and autumn/fall times. Spring begins from March to May, a lively season with longer sunlight hours for pleasant walks and views. The right season is when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom, like the rhododendrons of various species and colors. But morning and late afternoon till night time will be cold, and can get cloudy. As well as chances of light showers, and snowfall sometimes.
The next best time is autumn/fall, which starts from September to November, one of the peak seasons. For trekking and various adventures in Nepal and around the Himalayas, most days are fine and clear. But cold morning, late afternoon until night time, days are shorter due to limited sunlight hours. Morning departs from Kathmandu on a tourist bus, coach, or a chartered vehicle if included in the trip cost. The drive heads beyond Kathmandu Valley reaching lower warmer farm villages and towns, following the Trisuli River till Mugling Bazaar. Then the route diverts west with views of Manaslu Himal, as the drive reaches Pokhara enjoy views of the Annapurna Himalayan range. On arrival in Pokhara by late afternoon transfer to a nice hotel by Phewa Lakeside.
From the beautiful scenic city of Pokhara starts our adventure to Annapurna Base Camp and Poon Hill Trekking. Morning drive heading west on Pokhara and Beni Highway with stunning views of Annapurna Himalayas. As the drive reaches the town of Nayapul, then start the walk to nice village of Bhirethati. The trail follows with slow climb with views of beautiful waterfalls to reach Hille and at Thirkhedhunga farm village. Transfer into a nice lodge and enjoy walk to nearby lovely waterfalls.
The morning after a good breakfast, walk across a bridge then climb on a steep uphill lined with stone steps. The climb of a few hours to reach the large hill village of Ulleri with views of Annapurna peaks. From Ulleri on a nice and pleasant winding uphill through beautiful forest of rhododendrons and pines. Then reaching at Ghorepani village overnight, inhabited by the Poon-Magar, the tribes of western Nepal. From Ghorepani overlooking the grand scenery of the Dhaulagiri Himal range in the comfort of a nice lodge.
Rising early morning before breakfast, an hour hike uphill to the top of Poon Hill, for striking sunrise views. Besides sunrise enjoy the wide 380-degree panorama of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, and Nilgiri’s peaks with Annapurna and Manaslu Himal. After a refreshing morning hike and scenic views of sunrise and the Himalayan range of peaks, down to Ghorepani for breakfast. Leaving Ghorepani with climb through a lovely forest to the top of Deurali, and then down to Bhanthati for lunch stop. Afternoon walk down to a stream and climb for an hour to Tadapani for an overnight stop. A lovely spot, in the shadow of Annapurna Himalayas amidst forest surroundings.
From Tadapani morning walk to a long descent to Kimrong river, a lovely walk into dense tree lines. On reaching the bridge, climb up to the other side of the hill, the trail leads to gradual walks. Walk past smaller farm villages with a short down to Chomrong Village for an overnight halt. Chomrong is a large Gurung village, the gateway to Annapurna Base Camp and picturesque Sanctuary. Enjoy the comfort of a lovely lodge accommodation and good food.
After a pleasant overnight in Chomrong Village, today’s walk is quite short starts with short down to Chomrong River. Then climb on stone steps to Sinuwa hill top a place with few Tea House and shops. From here on winding route through dense woods with short downhill to Bamboo. Located on Modi River gorge amidst lovely forest of rhododendron, pines and bamboo and hence the name Bamboo. Reaching Bamboo for lunch and overnight stop, a place with several nice simple lodges.
Another short day to enjoy the morning walks to Deurali before Annapurna Sanctuary and base camp. After breakfast a slow climb into dense tree lines to reach Dovan, a small place with few lodges. The walk follows the Modi River gorge to reach a large overhanging Hinko Cave and to the Himali Hotel. After Himali Hotel, walk across the old glaciated moraine of rocks down close to the Modi River. A short climb brings you to Deurali, located on a nice flat field with several good lodges. At Deurali check into a lodge for lunch and an overnight stop, with a leisurely afternoon to enjoy.
Today is the main day for the adventure to reach the goal and highlight Annapurna Base Camp. As well the Sanctuary, from Deurali’s morning walk follows the raging Modi River upstream with a steep climb to MBC. Which is Machhapuchare Base Camp for short, located at the bottom of the majestic North West Face of Machhapuchare Himal. The famous unclimbed Fish-Tail Peak of the Himalayas, from MBC, enters the picturesque Annapurna Sanctuary enclosed by towering snow peaks. Morning from Bamboo a short climb to reach an old place of Khuldi Ghar. At one time stood as a check-post, at present in ruins, from here reached Sinuwa Danda. After a short rest down to Chomrong River and then climb up to Chomrong Village for lunch stop. Afternoon a short hour’s walk down to Jhinu Danda a small village with a natural hot spring. After checking into a lodge, have time to enjoy a refreshing dip and a bath in the hot-spring pools.
From Jhinu Village cross over a long bridge to reach Nayapul and then drive back to Pokhara. Transfer into a nice hotel room, and have time to explore the beautiful Phewa Lakeside. As well as enjoy the boat ride on the serene lake and visit the Barahi Temple situated on an island in the middle of the lake.
Depart from the hotel in Pokhara after an early breakfast, driving by coach or Tourist Bus. The drive heads on the same exciting and busy highway to reach back into the hustle and bustle city of Kathmandu.
